Meet our Experts: Julia Hwang
Julia Hwang, Master of Public Health degree candidate at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada, is of Korean/European descent. Hwang grew up in Yakima, WA. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health-Global Health at the University of Washington. Hwang has experience doing research in both English and Spanish languages. While studying in Canada, Hwang has pursued her interest in leadership, becoming the first International Student Representative in the Faculty of Health Science’s Graduate Caucus. Her passion to increase accessibility for immigrants and minority communities leads her to work on projects such as “A Roadmap for Developing Indigenous Patient-Reported Outcome and Experience Measures,” and to create guides for international students to facilitate moving to Canada and to access health care. Hwang would like to improve access to health care for immigrants in Washington State who cannot speak English fluently. She is passionate about bringing her experience, expertise, and love of community work to Afghan Health Initiative to improve equitable access to immigrants and refugees in Washington State and beyond.
