Meet our Volunteers: Shekiba Khoram
Shekiba Khoram was born and raised in Afghanistan. She graduated from Balkh University in Afghanistan in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. She is a mother of three children. She came to Washington State in 2016 as an asylum-seeker fleeing years of abuse, war, and violence. Shekiba is passionate about women’s rights, social justice, and women’s leadership program. She is a senior in this line of work and has been working in women’s programs and advocacy for 14 years. She pursues her passion of social justice in her capacity working as a screener working with Afghan refugees and immigrants for various non-profits in Washington State. Shekiba is a social and kind person who always wants to help others. As a volunteer for Afghan Health Initiative, she hopes to empower Afghan women in the community to gain autonomy and self-sufficiency, economic freedom, and have the opportunity to pursue their passions without fear and inhibition.
